The Colors of Carmel: A Weekend Trip
It’s a Saturday morning at Santa Clara University, but instead of grabbing a mimosa at the hut with friends, I’m having mimosas and tea at a quaint brunch spot in Carmel by the Sea with my mom. There’s a subtle smell of saltwater in the air and Don’t you love mom's weekend! Come with me on my one night stay in Carmel, a great option for a weekend getaway for Santa Clara students. :)
Saturday was filled with shopping, coffee shops, and colorful art galleries. We first checked into our hotel, which is pictured above, and headed to brunch at a little spot called Stationery. I ordered avocado toast and my mom ordered the farmer's salad with salmon. Mimosas and hot tea were also included! We both rated our food 10/10 and the ambiance was great! Would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a fun place to eat. The rest of the day consisted of shopping, shopping, and shopping. It was quite overwhelming but there is quite a unique selection of clothes in Carmel. I’m more of a thrift shop shopper, usually looking for unique pieces, but there were many niche stores in Carmel that definitely gave off the same vibe. Some of my favorite stores were Paloosh and Girl Boy Girl. The art galleries were also amazing, but nothing there was in my college girl budget!
Saturday night was most definitely my favorite part of the trip. My mom found an amazing restaurant called Mission Ranch, right on the outskirts of Carmel. Owned by Clint Eastwood, this restaurant encapsulates the ranch life with sheep roaming outside, an amazing piano bar, and excellent farm to table food options. My mom and I both had steak and a packed cheese board to start. But it wasn’t the food that made my night there, it was the overall positive atmosphere. I love watching people go out of their comfort zone and throughout the night different people, all unique in their own ways, ventured their way up to the piano bar to sing. My mom and I were amazed by the voices and musical talent in this hole in the wall place. The only complaint from my mom was that the animals went to bed too early! She desperately wanted to pet the sheep.
