A College Student’s Guide to Sustainable Living
Living Sustainably…In College!
In today’s day and age, a sustainable lifestyle is all the rage. As our world progresses towards sustainable activism, what you eat, what you wear, and how you get from point A to point B all affects the environment and the place we call home. In my personal life, environmental activism plays a huge role in the way that I live my daily life.
If you have ever been on a college campus, chances are you have heard or seen someone holding an Earth Cup. From the Earth Brand company, the revolutionary “Earth Cups” have forever changed the college partying lifestyle.
Red solo cups have been a staple in the partying scene from barbeques to frat parties and everything in between. Walking down the streets of any college town neighborhood, you are guaranteed to see these red solo cups sprinkled in the lawns and overflowing from trash cans; the Earth Brands company realized that there could be a simple solution to prevent this inefficient disposal of large amounts of plastic.
A College Favorite… Earth Cups!

Just within the production of Earth Cups compared to a typical plastic cup, there is a 50% reduction in energy and water use, emitting far less greenhouse gasses and carbon emissions. The cups are also 100% biodegradable and compostable - reduce, reuse, recycle! Not only are Earth Cups far better for the environment than the generic plastic cup, but they highly cater towards college students who are the typical target audience that are in need of large supplies of plastic cups.
I have recently become a Santa Clara campus ambassador for Earth Cups in hopes to spread sustainability practices even within the partying scene where plastic is improperly disposed of weekly. Earth Brands, which was originally founded by two college students, is an excellent company to support, as college students ourselves, looking to implement more sustainable practices in our daily lives. If you or any friends are interested in taking a step towards living sustainably as a college student, I would highly recommend investing in Earth Cups for your dorm, apartment, or house, and spreading the word! What’s the final perk of Earth Brands?
