TV You Must Watch Right Now
When in doubt, throw on a good tv show or even return to your favorite movie for some guaranteed instant gratification. Netflix and Hulu are booming with new content to dive into. The options for good television are truly endless nowadays. Here are just some of my favorite current must-sees.
*Warning, one might experience serious bingeing.*
Bring on the drama…
1. All the Bright Places - One of the most beautiful movies I have ever watched. This movie sheds light on the hardships of mental illness and highlights how that impacts relationships with others. Ultimately this story leads to silver linings and is worth the watch.
2. The Sinner - An excellent series a friend introduced me to. All three seasons are separate but all include the same incredible quality of screenwriting and acting. Season three (the latest), leaves you with suspense and keeps you watching with its unexpected twists. The characters are brilliant... This show never fails to impress.
3. Bridgerton - Latest & greatest. This saga explores romance, comedy, and the ultimate scandal of London’s high society. A beautifully executed array of characters in lavish costumes and colorful cinematography. A unique take on the culture of the 19th century; this show dabbles with gender roles, relationships, and race.
4. The Queen's Gambit - My new favorite addition on Netflix. One of the best binges yet. Beth Harmon, an orphan at age 9 discovers her passion for chess and mastery of the game. As she makes her way to the top, she has to overcome different struggles and learn to navigate the real world.
Some good belly laughs…
1. Easy A - an Emma Stone classic. Somewhat inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s, The Scarlet Letter. Ultimately this film is about females learning to navigate their reputations, particularly when they feel like it matters the most.
2. Grace and Frankie - After my mom finally got me to watch this show after long convincing, I was immediately hooked. A true feel-good show! The cast is great and the storyline is very relevant. Grace and Frankie are the ultimate duo and are fun and witty in their approach.
3. Schitt’s Creek - Sad it's over kinda shows. Every minute of this show, you are along for the journey. This follows a rich family losing it all and subsequently forcing them to move to a small town called Schitt's Creek. Many moments of LOLs and some bitter-sweet moments as well. Grab some of your best friends to watch this one!
4. I’m sorry. - Absolutely hilarious. Features a working comedian navigating life in Los Angeles. Andrea tries to balance her role as a parent, wife, and job all while writing about her life experiences in such an unconventional way.
Documentaries…
1. Framing Britney Spears - a New York Times film, following Britney Spears and her father’s conservatorship she’s been stuck in for the past 13 years.
2. Defiant Ones - A four-part documentary series that tells the stories of Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre. Two legends in the music industry crossed paths in the late 1980s, and have been business partners and friends ever since. They started Beats by Dre and later founded Interscope Records, an American record label that has founded artists such as Lana Del Rey and Eminem.
3. My Octopus Teacher - My mom suggested this one. Follows a truly inspiring and uplifting story of Craig Foster, a film-maker, who goes snorkeling off the coast of South Africa and encounters an octopus. Every day he makes it his goal to capture more and more of this creature. Sounds enchanting!
